Self-Adjusting Guards
This category refers to barriers affixed to a fabricating machine to act as a shield to prevent contact with an operator’s body, that move according to the size and orientation of the workpiece entering the machine’s point of operation. A self-adjusting guard is completely in place when the machine is at rest, and pushes away when the workpiece enters the operating point, providing an opening just big enough for the workpiece. After the workpiece is removed, the guard returns to the rest position. Self-adjusting guards are commonly made from metal, plastic, or another substantial material.
