Performance Meets Precision: Cutting-edge Technology for Tiny and Large Parts
Chiron Group,Micro5 with Feed5 automation, micro machining, Mill series
Booth S-338190: Aerospace part on Mill series: 5-axis complete machining with high precision and process safety.

America has a long tradition in the machine tool industry. The demand for future-oriented machining solutions drives manufacturers to achieve top performance. At IMTS 2024, the German-based Chiron Group (Chiron America-Charlotte, NC) shows its capacity to deliver such solutions with a comprehensive product lineup and a deep understanding of customer needs. Chiron will be in Booth S-338190.

The new Micro5 and the established Mill 2000 give proof of performance live on stage. “From the Chiron Group, customers can expect tailored solutions for small and large parts, with standard automation or as a turnkey solution.

Booth S-338190: Medical and watchmaking are typical parts for micro-machining. These were completed on a Chiron Micro5.

Our expertise in process automation and mastering technologies such as double spindle and multitasking machining with milling and turning positions us to deliver the solution that best meets our customers’ requirements,” said Simon Knecht, vice president of sales, and marketing at Chiron America. At IMTS, the Chiron Group will showcase the Mill 2000, the vertical machining center designed for 5-axis machining, combining precision, productivity and versatility. The swivel spindle reaches speeds up to 30,000 rpm with 180 Nm of torque. Within the working space dimension of X/Y/Z = 78.74”-x-38.38”-x-28.15” multiple clampings or large work parts are dynamically machined with feed rates up to 246 ft/min and tool change time of 1.5 s.

A “must-have” in micro-machining is the new Micro5, which has sold more than 150 units this year. With this machine, Chiron will showcase how the future of micro-machining is taking shape. “Why would you machine tiny parts on machines which are over-dimensioned for this task?” With that question in mind and after a successful development period, Chiron Group now sets a benchmark in micro-machining with the new Micro5. A footprint of only 10.76 square feet and an energy consumption of only 0.5 kW are sufficient to machine ultra-precise complex and high-quality parts for medical devices, watchmaking, jewelry, and highly specialized tiny components. Automated with the Feed5 automation system, the modular design of Micro5 can grow step-by-step from prototyping to large-scale production, delivering high autonomy.

LUTZE Introduces a NEW IO-Link Gateway
Lutze,IO-Link Gateway
Booth N-236333: Among other products, LUTZE will feature the new IO-Link Gateway for connecting up to 15 LOCC-Box-Net modules.

LUTZE Inc. (Charlotte, NC) now offers a new IO-Link Gateway for connecting up to 15 LOCC-Box-Net modules. The IO-Link Gateway provides a wide range of valuable functions such as advanced energy management, monitoring status information like flowing current or operating voltage, as well as remote control and parameterization of all connected LOCC-Box-Net modules. By incorporating a gateway into DC applications, each LOCC-Box-Net module can be configured and controlled individually or collectively as an entire set. LUTZE will be in Booth N-236333.

The LOCC-Box ECB is commonly used in control cabinets for overload and short-circuit protection. With the IO-Link Gateway, LUTZE is adding a module to its LOCC-Box portfolio that shares the same compact housing width of 8.1 mm as the LOCC-Box-Net modules themselves. The networkable LOCC-Box modules and the IO-Link Gateway create an interconnected system via jumper combs. The jumper combs connect communication and 0V signals from one LOCC-Box module to another. In addition to the I/O Link interface, the gateway features a USB port, through which all relevant status information, such as trip diagnostics, and current and voltage measurements, can be read using the free LOCC-Pads software.

Not only is LUTZE’s IO-Link Gateway well suited for new machine builds but it is ideal for retrofitting and modernizing existing machinery to be part of a fieldbus connected network. In such cases retrofitting is performed only in one location: inside the control cabinet and not in multiple decentralized locations on the plant floor.

Additional features such as gateway communication capabilities for remote monitoring and analysis are possible with the LUTZE LOCC-Box Net.

Dual-Station Cells Add Versatility to Welding Applications
Yaskawa,ArcWorld® 200 welding solution
Booth N-236601 The ArcWorld 200 offers two workstations with choice of table or part positioner, or you can mix and match. Its compact size and common base allow this system to be quickly operational on your shop floor.

Designed for high robot utilization, the pre-engineered ArcWorld® 200 welding solution from Yaskawa America Inc. (Dayton, OH) is equipped to be a versatile workhorse for small- to medium-sized parts or medium-volume production runs. Yaskawa America will be in Booth N-236601.

Requiring minimal floorspace, this dual-station model is easy to install and customize, and it allows the operator to load one workstation while the robot is servicing the other.

Tooling is quick and easy. Workstations can be tooled for different parts or can be used for sequential operations. It features a fast, rugged, electrically driven barrier door. The Functional Safety Unit (FSU) provides an additional layer of safeguarding between the two stations without switches or a safety PLC, reducing cost and complexity.

The ArcWorld 200 (AW200) is designed for stationary tooling or a tack table. Risers are provided to allow end users to place their own tooling in the workstation, and each station accommodates a work area of 600 mm-x-1,300 mm.

AW200 work cells include an AR1440 robot, which can service both workstations, and host a 12-kg payload capacity to support a wide variety of torches and sensors. The robot’s speed enables unrivaled productivity, and the slim arm design allows easy access to parts in tight spots and avoids potential interference with fixtures.

Each work cell features a total safety environment that is compliant with ANSI/RIA R15.06-2012 (and other international standards). The YRC1000 robot controller includes an FSU that uses “stand still” monitoring of the positioner axis while the operator is interrupting the light curtain field.

The compact work cell design has a 4,613 mm-x-2,231 mm footprint and fits in a 110” trailer. The robot, positioner and safety fence all ship on a common platform, reducing installation and setup time. The controller and power source are shipped attached to the cell base and can be separated for maintenance.  Additional optional features are available.
