Automated Precision Inc. (API), a global leader in advanced metrology solutions, is proud to announce the release of its redesigned XD Laser and the all-new wireless SwivelCheck. These innovations mark a significant leap forward in machine tool calibration, delivering enhanced performance and user convenience.

Machine tools are the lifeblood of manufacturing. Much of quality control is dedicated to ensuring the accuracy of parts after they have left the machine. Proper maintenance and calibration of the machines, however, can help identify problems before they arise and save cost otherwise spent on rework, manhours, and scrapped parts.

API pioneered advanced machine tool calibration with Dr. Kam Lau’s invention of the straight-line interferometer for axial measurement of CNC machines. API’s XD Laser remains the only machine tool calibration laser that provides 6DoF measurement data for all axis errors in a single setup. And that innovation continues in the next generation of MTC products from API.

Redesigned XD Laser: Precision and Stability Redefined

The XD Laser has been meticulously redesigned to offer performance and ease-of-use improvements while maintaining XD’s unmatched measurement speed and accuracy. Key enhancements include:

  • Improved Thermal Stability: Redesigned to maintain accuracy and reliability under varying thermal conditions.
  • Internal Antenna: Features an internal antenna for improved connectivity, ensuring seamless communication and data transfer.
  • New AC Adapter: Upgraded with a new AC adapter for more efficient power management, reducing downtime and increasing operational efficiency.

All-New Wireless SwivelCheck

The API SwivelCheck measures and calibrates machine tool rotary axes, swivel axis, tilt tables, and pendulum axes. It is the only tool that can be mounted off-center of the rotating axis to measure swivel axes and trunnions without disassembling critical machine-tool components. SwivelCheck utilizes a servo-driven motor in conjunction with an electronic level and precision rotary encoder to measure multiple parameters in a single set-up. Used in conjunction with the API XD Laser SwivelCheck can measure table wobble on horizontal rotary tables.

The SwivelCheck has been completely transformed to offer unparalleled convenience and performance in machine calibration:

  • Cordless Operation: The new wireless design eliminates the need for cables, providing greater flexibility and improved machine coverage.
  • 40% Reduction in Size: Significantly smaller, the compact design allows for easier handling and positioning, making it ideal for a wide range of industrial applications.

Commitment to Innovation

“API is dedicated to pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in precision measurement technology,” said Joe Bioty, President of API. “The redesigned XD Laser and the new wireless SwivelCheck are a testament to our commitment to innovation and excellence. These products are designed to meet the evolving needs of our customers, providing them with the tools they need to achieve the highest levels of accuracy and efficiency.”
