The X·treme Evo Plus–DC180 Supreme solid carbide drill from Walter is a new addition to the product range. The drill with internal coolant and Krato·tec™ multi-layer coating. The Krato·tec™ coating is comprised of a top layer with a high aluminum content, a graded AlTiN layered coating underneath and a base layer with optimized toughness. The drill is available in diameters from 0.118 to 0.787 in. (3 to 20 mm).

The dimensions are 3 times the cutting diameter (Dc) in accordance with the DIN 6537 short standard, 5 x Dc in accordance with the DIN 6537 long standard and 8 times Dc in accordance with the Walter standard. For Walter Xpress step drill, the dimensions are up to 8 x Dc. A further expansion of the offering to include 12x Dc dimension drills is planned for April of 2024.

The DC180 Supreme drill comes in two grades. The WJ30EZ grade has a K30F fine-grained carbide substrate with a multi-layer aluminum titanium nitride (AlTiN) coating, and the WJ30EY has the same coating and substrate, except it is designed only to be the tip coating for ease of chip evacuation in deeper drills.

The drill features a 140° point angle, four margins (double margin drill), a straight cutting edge for maximum stability and process reliability, and a shank end in accordance with the DIN 69090 standard. It can be used with emulsion, oil or minimum quantity lubrication (MQL), and is targeted for mold and die making,

general mechanical engineering, and the automotive, aviation and energy industries.

The carbide tool is suitable for holemaking in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous materials, super alloys and hard materials (ISO P, M, K, N, S and H workpiece groups). Potential benefits of the DC180 Supreme solid carbide drill include maximum productivity due to the latest Krato·tec™ coating technology, universal application at the highest cutting speeds and the availability of a version with four margins for drilling 8 diameters deep.

The Walter lineup of products consists of three categories of tools. Supreme tools indicate the highest level of technology and performance available. Advance tools indicate products efficiently balanced between price and performance and Perform tools are products that provide an economical solution with focused importance on price ideal for small batch production.
