Registration is now open for the Surface Roughness, Texture, and Tribology short course, held in Livonia, Mich., May 8–9, 2024. The two-day class offers a unique opportunity to learn the fundamentals of surface roughness, friction, and wear analysis, and their applications in manufacturing and product development.
“This class was developed to help students use surface roughness analysis in their workplaces,” said Don Cohen, PhD, who presents the course. “It introduces a wide range of surface-related topics in a short time. Students are encouraged to ask questions about their particular applications, to make the material pertinent for their work.”
Class topics include:
- Measuring surface roughness and waviness
- Instruments for surface measurement
- Filtering texture data
- Analysis techniques and tools
- Surface texture parameters
- Specifying surface texture
- Applying surface texture analysis to wear, sealing, and other functions
- Coating adhesion and appearance, surface energy
- Mechanics of dry friction and rolling friction
- Fundamentals of lubrication
- Surface metrology strategy
“We have been refining and expanding this class for 20 years,” said Dr. Cohen. “It’s the most thorough and affordable opportunity we know to learn and apply the fundamentals of surface texture analysis and tribology.”
