METAL FORMING & FABRICATING

Achieve consistent drilling results with lightweight yet formidable drills that lower the time it takes to perform drilling, tapping, countersinking and more.

New Magnetic Drills Save Time and Punch Above their Weight

CS Unitec’s new MAB 100 K.

When it comes to magnetic drilling, safety, productivity, and flexibility are important. To serve the needs for more applications, CS Unitec (Deer Park, TX) offers new magnetic drill solutions including the MAB 100 K, PipeMAB 200, and PipeMAB 525, expanding our magnetic drill offering to more than 30 models.

Our new PipeMAB magnetic drills dramatically reduce the time and effort required to drill, tap, ream and countersink in pipe. Equipped with patented swivel magnetic clamping systems, PipeMAB models can drill on pipe 3” OD and larger, inner pipe wall (ID), as well as flat and curved surfaces. The permanent magnets’ strong clamping force allows for flexibility with adhesion on ferrous materials as thin as 9/64,” and increased accuracy with swing-away magnetic clamping allowing for easy hole alignment and clearing of debris. With a highly stable permanent magnet system, the PipeMAB’s magnets remain active independent of electricity, increasing safety and reducing the chance of drop hazards. This pipe system combined with the features of the PipeMAB 200 and 525 make for the most versatile pipe drilling machines on the market. Other available features include: up to 2-1/2” drilling capacity, automatic lubrication, reversible motor, variable speed and torque and internal cable routing.

The MAB 100 K is a streamlined, lightweight magnetic drill that punches above its weight. At only 21.8 lbs., this is one of the lightest magnetic drills on the market. With a quick-change keyless chuck as standard, the MAB 100 K dramatically reduces the time needed to switch between annular cutters and other cutting tools. Other features include: 1-3/8” drilling capacity, automatic lubrication, internal cable routing, ergonomic design, and a powerful dual core magnet.

New High Torque Three Speed Magnetic Drill

Hougen Manufacturing’s new portable magnetic drill, the HMD920.

Hougen Manufacturing, Inc. (Swartz Creek, MI) has released a new model of portable magnetic drill, the HMD920, which offers a major performance and power improvement to the line of Hougen magnetic drills. With the addition of a three-speed gearbox, the drill gives metal fabricator’s more torque to drill large deep holes in steel and the ability to use a wider variety of annular cutters.

The HMD920 has a number of features that increase the operator’s productivity, including an LED pilot light built into the base of the magnet that allows the operator to more efficiently and quickly line up the pilot with the hole’s center location in low light conditions.

Powering the drill is a proprietary, high torque, Hougen motor and three-speed gear box. The motor is the strongest, most powerful put on any Hougen drill. The three speeds (250, 450, 700 rpm) help maximize torque, tool life and productivity. It also allows for the use of both high-speed steel and copperhead carbide cutters. The addition of a two-stage magnet increases magnetic holding power by 30% when the drill’s motor is turned on. This saves energy and increases magnet life. The arbor system utilizes a 5/8″ slot drive for more rigidity, hole accuracy and quicker use of accessories such as drill chucks and tapping attachments.

The drill weighs 49 lbs., measures 25-15/16″H-x-8-3/16″W-x-12-13/16″L and provides drilling capacities from 7/16″ up to 2-3/8″ (12-to-60 mm) diameter and 3″ (76 mm) depth of cut. The drill has an electrical rating of 13.5A and arbor speeds of 250/450/700 rpm.

For safety, the HMD920 incorporates a no-adjustment safety switch, which shuts down the drill motor if lift of the magnetic base is detected … plus an LED indicator that monitors this sensor and alerts if the switch is not engaged. The HMD920 is made in the USA.
