First Order of Sanicro® 35 Alloy to be Produced; Designed for Highly Aggressive Corrosive Environments

The alloy will be used for overhead exchanger tubes in a crude upgrader facility in Canada. Alleima will produce the Sanicro 35 at its tube mill in Scranton, Pa., with raw materials melted and produced through Alleima’s integrated production system.

Alleima, a leading manufacturer of high value-added products in advanced stainless steels and special alloys as well as products for industrial heating, has secured an important order for its Sanicro 35 (UNS N08935) PRE 52 super-austenitic alloy for overhead exchanger tubes in a crude upgrader facility in Canada.

This marks the first order for Sanicro 35 to be produced by the Alleima tube mill in Scranton, Pennsylvania, which is an accomplishment that represents another milestone for the company’s flagship alloy.

Sanicro 35, is an alloy combining the best features of a super austenitic stainless steel and a nickel alloy, designed for highly aggressive corrosive environments.

It will replace tubes made from the high-alloy duplex stainless steel SAF® 2707 HD, following the customer’s desire to extend the turnaround cycle. Sanicro® 35 was compared to UNS N06200, but it was ultimately selected for its strong performance and cost effectiveness. Sanicro 35 performs similarly to C-276 and better than alloy 625. It can also be used in a higher temperature range than duplex grades.

“Through our experience of overhead exchangers, we were able to demonstrate to our customer that Sanicro 35 was the ideal material for their replacement tubes and that UNS N06200 would be a much more costly and overly conservative grade for them to use,” says Karen Picker, Technical Marketing Manager – Tube Americas.

“By expanding our U.S. production capabilities, we can better serve the Americas region and the increased demand for higher alloyed materials. Sanicro 35 is an advanced material that is helping move our customers forward, and interest in it is increasing. In a cost-conscious industry seeking to extend turnaround cycles, where lead times, material availability, and performance are driving decision making, recognition of Sanicro 35 as a great solution is growing,” says Jennifer Svensson, Sales & Marketing Manager.
