Sandvik Coromant Releases Series Of Solid Round Tools Knowledge Sessions.
Posted: March 23, 2023
Metal cutting leader Sandvik Coromant has released a series of online knowledge sessions to support its customers in solid round tool applications. The eight sessions explore various application tips, machining strategies and recommended products related to working with solid round tools and can be accessed from the Sandvik Coromant website.
When the COVID-19 pandemic forced facilities around the world to keep employees at home, engineering development and training was consequentially limited. However, Sandvik Coromant has worked to prevent any knowledge gaps caused by the pandemic through a series of highly technical and application-specific virtual sessions.
Throughout 2021, Sandvik Coromant released a series of eight solid round tools knowledge sessions covering critical topics such as drilling, tapping, milling, pocketing, and slotting, as well as presenting the company’s digital manufacturing solutions. Most of the sessions are hosted by Ben Lodge, a dedicated solid round tools specialist at Sandvik Coromant, who is joined by a host of technical and product experts relevant to each individual session.
Each session runs for an average of 20-to-30 minutes, making them convenient to watch while providing immediate machining support — no matter where customers are based. Each session covers application-specific knowledge that aims to answer some of the most asked questions when working with solid round tools. For instance, session five explores the strategies and best practices for machining pockets with indexable milling products, which is a challenge commonly seen among aerospace customers.
In session seven, manufacturers dealing with small batch sizes can learn about working with difficult to machine materials such as aluminium and steel and how products such as the CoroDrill® 460 -XM can help deliver more precise hole making. Session eight is dedicated to using digital solutions for better tool management and explores Sandvik Coromant’s digital services such as CoroPlus® Tool Supply, a tool management software for inventory control, as well as CoroPlus® Machining Guide, a web application software for fast generation of machining operation plans.
“Many of our customers have missed out on the crucial first-hand training and experience they would naturally achieve when visiting our Sandvik Coromant Centers,” said Ben Lodge, knowledge session host and solid round tools specialist at Sandvik Coromant. “Through these digital sessions, Sandvik Coromant has still been able to educate and support its customers and ensure they use our tools to their highest potential. The videos deliver key information including recommended techniques, technical information, and how-to demonstrations, which all support the effective use of solid round tools.
“While doors to our centers are opening, we understand that having access to on-demand, digital training will still be important for many manufacturers. So far, our sessions have proved to be a huge hit — almost 10,000 manufacturers have already benefitted from them. We want our customers to know that this knowledge resource can be tapped into whenever they require it. Sandvik Coromant experts are always on hand to offer support, whether that be at our dedicated centers or in the virtual world.”
