Wayland to Exhibit New Additive Manufacturing System in November at Formnext 2021

Wayland Additive Ltd. (Huddersfield, England) has announced that it will exhibit its metal additive manufacturing (AM) system, Calibur3, at Formnext 2021, which will take place Nov. 16-19 in Frankfurt, Germany.

Posted: October 11, 2021

Launched earlier in 2021, Calibur3 features the NeuBeam metal AM process. Formnext will be the first opportunity for a broader audience to see the new system in person and to get a deeper understanding of its benefits.

According to Wayland, the NeuBeam  offers the advantages of metal electron-beam powder bed fusion (PBF) technology, while overcoming the troublesome issues that have traditionally limited wider adoption.

According to Wayland, EBM processes have been restricted previously because of charging issues, but those issues have been solved by Wayland with its fully neutralized NeuBeam process.

Wayland added that unlike traditional electron-beam (eBeam) processes, NeuBeam is a hot part process rather than a hot powder bed process.

And the practical benefit of that difference? According to Wayland, Calibur3 can efficiently produce parts that are free of residual stresses because the high temperatures are only applied to the part and not the whole powder bed, ensuring free-flowing powder post-build (no sinter cake) and stress-free parts with reduced energy consumption. Consequently, the process is more flexible in terms of part geometries and more cost-efficient because heat treatments and other post-processing steps are reduced, Wayland said.

At Formnext 2021, Wayland Additive will be in Hall 12, at Stand B139. At the stand will be Calibur3.
