Walter Offers New Coated Ceramic Inserts for Finishing Cuts on Soft or Hard Materials
Walter USA LLC (Waukesha, WI) has introduced a new line of coated, ceramic, indexable inserts, grade WCH10C, which is a grade that’s mixed ceramic Al2O3 + TiC.

The inserts feature TiN PVD coating for improved wear detection and surface quality and are available with or without wiper geometry.
According to Walter, the new inserts deliver high repeat accuracy due to their sintering process and are tough and wear resistant due to the strong connection to their titanium carbide substrate. The company added 1) that optimum surface quality is promoted by uniform grain distribution in the substrate, 2) that the inserts can be used effectively on materials ranging in hardness from 45 to 60 HRC, and 3) that the inserts can be a cost-effective alternative to CBN cutting tool materials.
Additionally, Walter said the WCH10C ceramic grade can be used in case-hardened materials, where the insert encounters both hard and soft turning conditions simultaneously.
Walter offers a range of precision tools for milling, turning, drilling, and threading applications.
