EMCO Offers the Ability to Machine Large Parts Without Reclamping
Extending its MMV series, EMCO GmbH (Hallein-Taxach, Austria) has introduced three machining centers with enlarged travel paths.

EMCO said that the machines with 3, 4, and 5 axes can be used for complete machining of very large and heavy parts in one clamping, adding that they were developed in response to increased demand in the travelling column machine segment.
Like the MMV 3200, each of the three new models has a high-performance motor spindle with a speed range of 0–15,000 rpm, with spindle power of 46 kW, and with torque of up to 170 Nm. A second version of the spindle has a speed of up to 18,000 rpm (HSK-A63). The three models come with 40 tool pockets as standard, but have the option of being expanded to as many as 120 pockets. Large, heavy workpieces up to 8,000 kg can be produced.
EMCO said that the main difference between the three new models and the previous model is the X-axis drive, which uses a rack-and-pinion system instead of ball screws for faster, more dynamic, and more precise feed during machining. The X-axis drive system can achieve rapid traverses of up to 60 m/min. These machines are mainly being demanded by the petroleum industry, the railroad industry, and intralogistics, EMCO said.
EMCO manufactures machine tools, such as turning machines and milling machines.
