Magnetic Transporters for End-of-Arm Tooling Applications

In Booth A-4555, Industrial Magnetics Inc. (IMI) (Boyne City, MI) will feature its Transporter family of products, including the latest addition, the Transporter Switch Series Magnets.

Posted: July 2, 2021

IMI will be in Booth A-4555. Transporters are engineered with powerful rare earth magnets that positively hold a part during transfer — even during unexpected loss of shop air — and greatly reduce chances for slipping and shifting of parts due to mill oil coatings, for example.

The magnets are well suited for cleanroom environments, as there is no dirty air exhausted to the atmosphere. Also, the magnets can be used where vacuum cups and grippers are typically used for lifting and moving steel sheets, blanks, stamped parts and complete assemblies. The Transporter family of products magnetically transfer metal blanks, stampings, and parts in automated station-to-station, press-to-press transfer or robotic pick-and-place applications. The products are engineered with powerful rare earth magnets that positively hold the part during transfer, even during unexpected loss of shop air. These magnets also reduce chances for slipping and shifting of parts due to mill oil coatings, dust, dirt, rust or weld splatter. Transporters also provide more options for pick-up points on stamped, perforated, and odd-shaped parts and offer a significant reduction over vacuum and suction cups in shop air costs. The Transporter family offers more accurate placement on the die and quicker cycle times for increased production. Each of IMI’s Transporters are million-cycle-tested for endurance and incorporate a fail-safe feature that, in the event of air loss, prevents the magnet from releasing ferrous parts. The company offers custom designs, providing Transporters for coil lifting, banded material handling and other challenging applications. Accessories and fittings are also available.
