With a spindle that runs on preloaded precision angular ball bearings and automatic transverse and longitudinal feed, the five F-Grind AH Series surface grinders from Kaast Machine Tools Inc. (Aldan, PA) are equally capable of achieving a high-quality surface finish or critical dimensions on cutting and threading tools, punches and gauges.
Spindle motors up to 7.5 hp provide speeds up to 2,900 rpm. The spindle runs in a class P4 high-precision angular contact bearing, ensuring run-out accuracy better than 2 microns. The cartridge-type spindle is completely sealed and lubricated for high accuracy and long service life.
Featuring hardened, ground and polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE)-coated table guideways, the grinders offer full stress-relieved main parts to ensure maximum rigidity, stability, and accuracy.
Longitudinal feed rate is 195 to 975 inches/minute, and the rapid cross feed is 35 inches/minute on all five models. Vertical feed is 17 inches/minute and moves in 0.0004-inch (0.01 mm) increments. Optional AD5 NC control decreases vertical feed increments to 0.0002-inch (0.005 mm). Transverse feed works in 0.0008-inch (0.02 mm) increments. Automatic down-feed from 0.00004-inch to 0.04-inch (0.001 to 0.999 mm) helps ensure a smooth finish.
Customers can add the optional AD5 auto-downfeed system or an NC parallel dressing and compensating device.
The grinders also incorporate rapid traverse to working height and magnetization of the table, while accommodating work pieces from 5.8 by 17.5 inches to 15.5 by 31 inches depending on model.
