Featuring spindle clearance of 600 mm, the twin-spindle DZ 22 from Chiron America Inc. (Charlotte, NC) rapidly machines complex, large workpieces such as housings for electric motors and transmissions, oil pumps, and chassis components. Choose a spindle according to application: one runs at up 20,000 rpm and torque of up to 137 Nm for aluminum and aluminum alloy workpieces; the other runs at up to 12,500 rpm and provides 200 nm of torque for hard materials and large tools. (HSK-A100 spindle also available.)
Two workpiece-changing table variants accommodate large, heavy parts. A 4-axis trunnion plate version handles 680 mm x 1,330 mm diameters weighing 600 kg; the twin-spindle 5-axis version handles 2 x 599 mm x 340 mm diameters weighing 150 kg.
A moving gantry is the key to the small-footprint machine’s success. The rigid machine bed and active component cooling ensure precision. High acceleration — X-Y-Z max. 10-10-17 m/s² — in all axes and rapid response to programming inputs ensure dynamic machining. Axis travel distances are X-Y-Z max. 620-650-600 mm and rapid traverse speeds X-Y-Z max. up to 120-120-90 m/min.
Magazines hold up to 77 tools. Tools are inserted in the chain magazine at the back of the machine, where tool data is entered via the operating console. Tools are replaced during machine operation; the new tool is clicked into the magazine with a single movement of the hand. Tool change time from 3.1 seconds, chip-to-chip. Integrated changer also loads and unloads workpieces during machining, further saving cycle time.
Series 22 is available with ball screw or linear direct drive. Choose from two plate variants: a suspension plate for 4-axis machining or two face plates for 5-axis simultaneous machining.
To tap the full potential of digitalized production, SmartLine modules optimize productivity, product quality, and machine availability:
ConditionLine detects atypical operations for more effective maintenance and repair.
ProcessLine and ProtectLine avert crashes by creating a digital twin during preparation and operation. The operator sees only functions that are useful for an operation.
TouchLine Siemens or Fanuc control panel is next to the working area, making setup easier.
All models can be equipped according to application with a cooling system, suction unit, chip conveyor, and tool packages. To maximize uptime, Chiron works with customers to develop automation solutions ranging from robot loaders to pallet-handling systems.
