Machine Complex Contoured Parts In A Single Setup

In addition to Swiss-style speed and accuracy, Tsugami’s SS327-III-5AX cuts contoured shapes using a servo-driven B-axis that turns the CNC lathe into a multitasking turning center that can drill, tap, and end mill any angle.

Tsugami’s SS327-III-5AX, 32mm, B-axis, chucker-convertible Swiss CNC lathe greatly enhances a manufacturer’s ability to produce high-precision parts requiring sculpted geometries. Footprint: 84.6 inches wide by 50.3 inches deep by 79.1 inches high (2,150 x 1,280 x 2,010 mm).

The SS327-III-5AX from Tsugami/REM Sales Inc. (Windsor, CT) may be run as a traditional sliding-headstock Swiss-type lathe using the guide bushing, or without the guide bushing by adding a chucker kit (which is included). When run as a chucker, the lathe can use drawn bar stock instead of centerless ground stock, dramatically reducing remnant length and increasing shop flexibility.

In addition, B-axis live tools (four front, two rear) can machine in coordination with the C-axis, delivering the ability to cut precise angles and sculpted contours. This capability transforms the lathe into a multitasking turning center that drills, taps, and end mills any angle. In addition to cutting complex parts in a single setup, the servo-driven B-axis enables through-hole thread whirling and high-speed spindles for small surfacing end mills.

The modular tool zone makes it easy to change cartridge type live cross and face tools on the B-axis and the sub side, decreasing changeover time. Multiple angle cuts by the same tool also decreases total number of tools required. For machining complex shapes, this is the ultimate Swiss-type lathe.

Larger linear guides, increased ribs in the already solid base casting, 4GB data server, thermal displacement compensation sensors throughout, and three-toggle clamping system are standard.

Control: Fanuc 31i-B5. Maximum bar stock: 1.25 inches (32mm). Axes: 7.

Main spindle and sub-spindle speed: 200 to 8,000 rpm. Live tool speed: 7,000 rpm (B-axis tools); 6,000 rpm (other).
