Miniature Coupling For Pallet Handling With Small Robots

Schunk’s extremely small, extremely lightweight Vero-S NSR coupling enables automated machine loading via extremely small robots. Integrated cleaning function ensures a chip-free flat work surface between pallet and robot coupling.

The slim robot couplings with optimized interfering contours of the Schunk (Morrisville, NC) Vero-S NSR series have set benchmarks in robotic pallet exchange on machine tools in a weight class from 1 to 1,000 kilograms for many years. The compact Vero-S NSR mikro 60 miniature coupling extends the principle of rapid pallet exchange to the growing market for small robots.

Due to the patented dual-stroke system, the 60-mm-wide module weighs  150 grams and provides high maximum moments of up to 12 Nm (Mx and Mz). It is suitable for pallet handling of up to 5 kg (at maximum 100 mm x 100 mm). Locking is done in a form-fit and self-retaining manner. Pneumatic-system pressure of 5 bar is sufficient for unlocking, which also can be done with nonlubricated air. Repeat accuracy amounts to 0.02 mm.

The module’s hybrid design ensures high robustness at a low weight. Functional parts are made of hardened stainless steel; remaining parts are made of high-strength, hard anodized aluminum alloy.

To supply clamping devices, the module can be equipped with Schunk standard media transfers for pneumatic pressure, electrics, or fluids.

To ensure reliability, the coupling is sealed against chips and coolant. Additionally, the cleaning function is integrated as standard for automated operation to ensure a chip-free flat work surface between pallet and robot coupling. On option, piston stroke and pallet presence can be monitored.
