With its clamshell cover and quiet operation (approx. 76 dB), the ProtoMAX from OMAX Corp. (Kent, WA) is a safe and quiet addition to an advanced manufacturing curriculum. Several universities have incorporated the waterjet cutter into engineering and robotics programs to give students hands-on experience with the technology.
Featuring a 5 hp pump that produces 30,000 psi of power, the compact ProtoMAX cuts virtually any material less than 1 inch thick in a 12-inch-by-12-inch cutting area. The system uses a 230-240 VAC, single-phase outlet and doesn’t require any hardwiring. Work material is submerged under water for clean, quiet cutting that won’t disrupt a shared workspace. The machine cuts with no heat-affected zone and no change to a material’s properties.
The pump and cutting table are on casters for easy relocation.
Intelli-MAX Proto CAD software features waterjet-specific tools, such as cut quality and lead-in/lead-out, that help users create the right part the first time.
