Kennametal Inc. (Pittsburgh, PA) expands its turret-adapted clamping units (TACU) line with ER-ready driven units and adds solid ER collets that are threaded to accept screw-on milling cutters. The products give shops the flexibility to use standard ER collets with solid end mills or the solid ER collets with screw-on indexable milling cutters.
Available in sizes ER25 through ER40 with thread sizes ranging from M08 through M16, this innovation gives live tool lathes machining center-like capabilities.
Sealed for through-the-tool coolant with a 1-millimeter standoff for additional clearance on larger end mills with a precision-ground locating boss for minimal runout, the very compact design reduces the chance of interference on smaller machines. They’re very rigid compared to a standard spring-style ER collet, enabling heavier cuts.
The TACU offering can be used on seven major brands of CNC lathes, both verein deutscher ingenieure (VDI) and bolt-mounted turrets (BMT) with a variety of static and driven blocks. TACUs are equipped for internal and external coolant with up to 12,000 RPM possible on specified driven tools.
