Internal or external spur or helical gears – in particular, those that may traditionally require shaping due to clearance requirements – are good candidates for power skiving, a tooth-generating operation that takes a fraction of the time of shaping. That’s because power skiving is a continuous process where the cutting tool constantly produces small cuts, whereas shaping has unavoidable idle backstrokes that reduce productivity.
Distributed in North America by Helios Gear Products (South Elgin, IL), YG Tech NEO Power Skiving (NEOPS) machines provide an affordable power skiving solution. Equipped to produce a variety of components and gear types, the line includes the NEOPS 200 and NEOPS 400 with capacities for parts up to 16.535 inches (420 mm) diameter and a pitch rating of 4 module (6.35 DP).
Both models feature high-quality components such as direct-drive torque motors for the work and cutter spindles; tangential positioning of the skiving head via CNC by FANUC 0i-MF for 6 axes; precision, repeatability, and control with Heidenhain linear scales; cast iron base for optimum stability and dampening; and automatic lubrication system with impulse lubrication for machine rails.
Optional features include automatic tool changer, deburring, cutting tool resharpening, and automatic loading/unloading.
Helios engineers support and train manufacturers on each application, including workholding strategies, cutting tools and coatings, machining parameters, and automation.
