Vollmer of America Corp. (Carnegie, PA) expands its range of grinding and erosion machines with the VLaser 270, which uses a fixed laser beam to sharpen the edges of cutting tools tipped with polycrystalline diamond (PCD) or other ultrahard materials.

The machine is designed to ensure tool quality by providing high path accuracy. Because the five axes are arranged on top of each other, the tool is always machined at the pivot point of the C-axis. This makes it possible to machine tools with minimal axis movement and to ensure stable process control.

The machine can be equipped with a counterpoint to achieve even higher concentricity, making the Vlaser 270 the first laser machine on the market to have such a counterpoint. Add Vollmer’s automated HC 4 tool change system for faster results.

By working without making contact, without tool wear, and without any significant thermal influence, the VLaser 270 is flexible, efficient, and ensures perfect cutting- edge quality whether customers are manufacturing or resharpening ultrahard tools.
