Digital Manufacturing Platforms Strengthen Cybersecurity Measures

Do any of your processes rely on an outdated operating system? This enhanced operational technology (OT) endpoint protection prevents unplanned shutdowns via stronger asset detection and vulnerability response capabilities.

Many industrial control systems run on outdated operating systems – such as Microsoft no longer providing Windows XP software updates – exposing process operations to cyberattacks. Verve Industrial (Chicago) and VMware Inc.’s (Palo Alto, CA) Carbon Black App Control have partnered for more than a decade to avert process disruptions caused by gaps in antivirus and other updates.

Verve’s technology protects industrial control systems (ICS). Carbon Black locks down servers and critical systems, prevents unwanted changes, and ensures continuous compliance with regulatory mandates by protecting legacy operating systems. Each month, the agent reviews patch and software vulnerabilities, deploys patches or removes software, supports cross-vendor deployment, and records the activity for compliance and monitoring purposes.

Adding Carbon Black to Verve Security Center provides a 360-degree view of an asset’s cybersecurity profile, including information about whitelisting enforcement mode status and alerts from Carbon Black. The platform combines this information with full details on an operating system, application software, patch status, and configurations on devices as well as full asset inventory, firmware, and vulnerabilities on embedded operational technology (OT) devices leveraging existing protocols and communications.

That makes the Verve Security Center the only endpoint management platform built for OT.

“Rather than monitoring for anomalous behavior and acting after the fact, this partnership offers an integrated solution to stop threats in their tracks,” says Verve Industrial CEO John Livingston.

Integrating Carbon Black App Control data with Verve’s asset visibility gives operators unparalleled insight into the health of their cybersecurity program. Customers are empowered to make informed decisions for faster remediation of vulnerabilities with the highest risk.
