3D Printing Files Open Your Door to Shutting Down Virus Spread

EMAG is sharing a free downloadable design file for a hands-free door opening device they customized for heavy-duty use at their own company. Preventing people from touching door handles throughout the day is one important layer of defense against the coronavirus.

Anyone in the 3D printing business can download the customized design and manual from EMAG and create the hands-free, door-opening device.
Here's how it works – when you 3D print and assemble the parts for the device and mount it to an existing door fixture, people can open the door with the side of their arm instead of their hand.

EMAG, a German machine tools manufacturer, is offering complimentary access to its customized design files to 3D print an industrial, hands-free door opening device.

Originally developed by Materialise, the hands-free door opener was modified by an EMAG employee, a hobbyist in 3D printing, making it usable with frequently used, heavy industrial doors.

Instead of keeping the customized plan to themselves, EMAG is sharing the design and manual for the industrial door opener here for free to help others stop the spread of the coronavirus.
