Designed for large-volume production of complex aluminum structural components for the automotive and aerospace industries, the FZ/DZ 25 series of two-spindle vertical machining centers (VMCs) from Chiron Group (Charlotte, NC) delivers 20,000 rpm in a small footprint.

The machine has a 800-mm spindle distance, offers spindle speeds up to 20,000 rpm, and provides a 799-mm-diameter work area per position.

The two spindles travel independently of each other in the X and Z direction, cooperating smoothly with user-selected automation options. Travel in X, Y, and Z are 800 mm, 1100 mm, and 800 mm, respectively. Travel speeds: 120/75/75 m/mi. Acceleration: 10/10/15 m/s2.

Operation and loading take place on separate sides of the machine, allowing optimum access to the working area and a good view of the process even when the machine is supplemented by a pallet changer for workpiece changes during production. Automation options available include a robot, pallet changer, and pallet changer plus robot. The machine can also be direct-loaded by gantry in high-production systems.

The 25 series requires a small amount of floor space due to its compact design.

Pallet size under each spindle is 630 by 630 mm. Up to 60 HSK63 tools can be assigned to each spindle with chip-to-chip time of 3.5 seconds.

The machines are operated via the Chiron TouchLine system via large-panel Siemens or Fanuc controls. To enhance productivity, they’re prepared for the Chiron SmartLine modules RemoteLine, DataLine, and ProcessLine.
