Featuring zero point clamping used in turning, milling, inspection, and finishing operations, APS and WPS manual workpiece positioning systems from SMW Autoblok (Wheeling, IL) cut setup time up to 90% by eliminating the need for conventional clamping devices.

A range of accessories and adapters ensures flexible clamping of nearly every workpiece geometry without interfering with machining or contours, making the system ideal for 5-axis machining. All modules are proofline-sealed to reduce maintenance and increase production time.

Made of corrosion-free hardened steel, the APS series for pneumatic open and closing has an extremely low installation height and offers maximum precision and repeatability less than 0.005 mm. A coating on the clamping slides and clamping pins guarantees long-lasting, frictionless operation.

Built-in air-cleaning function ensures the support surface remains free of chips during changeover or automation. Three-pin clamping design features nine die springs for maximum stiffness and clamping force. 140 and 190 APS size pull-in forces for each module can be increased up to 45 kN by the turbo function. Use the system to monitor the clamping device through air sensing.

The WPS series’ specially designed clamping pins with adapter for workpiece clamping or top mounting are case-hardened with corrosion-resistant coating. M12 or M16 mounting screws (also available with the APS series) provide stability and stiffness. Modules offered in 40 mm, 60 mm, 80 mm, and 160 mm guarantee clamping of virtually any workpiece. A single, quick actuation provides modules to be opened and closed with 3.5 rotations. Modules can be mounted on a t-slot table or grid plate with high-tempered steel with specialized coating to protect against rust and contaminants.

The economical WPS and APS provide multiple ways of fastening a workpiece or fixturing. Features include:

  • Clamping pins
  • Mounting screws
  • Reducing washer
  • Clamping modules
  • Single quick actuation
  • Adaption washers
  • Grid plate
  • Custom-engineered solutions.
