It’s important to maintain spindle drawbar force at 80% or more of the machine tool builder’s recommended value. The hydraulic ClampForce gage from JM Performance Products (JMPP) (Fairport Harbor, OH) averts machine downtime by continually monitoring the amount of pulling force exerted by the drawbar against the toolholder.
ClampForce gage heads are available in 3,000, 5,000, 10,000, and 15,000 ft/lb configurations with adapters available in CAT and BT 30, 40, and 50 taper sizes. Some Capto and HSK adapters are also available.
The gages are sold as kits packaged in a heavy-duty toolbox with protective packing materials.
Kits come with complete instructions, and the company offers an instructional video on its website. JMPP suggests annual recalibration, which it provides for a small fee.
