Prevents Machine Damage by Monitoring Spindle Elongation

With four monitoring modules, the Artis GEMDS system from Marposs provides real-time feedback on spindle characteristics that’s critical to avoiding out-of-tolerance parts. The system easily integrates into existing controls, network environments, and Industry 4.0 solutions.

Operators can detect spindle anomalies before machine damage occurs with the Artis GEMDS from Marposs (Auburn Hills, MI).

Consisting of a non-contact eddy current sensor, amplifier, connecting cable, and GEMDS monitoring module, the system uses the sensor’s data to monitor spindle elongation in real time and alert operators to critical variations. The system can monitor four sensor signals – one for displacement and three for temperature – and has a measuring range of 550 µm and precision down to 0.2 µm.

The early-detection system reduces scrap by helping operators avoid out-of-tolerance components.

The system can function as an intelligent standalone solution installed on a mounting rail in the switch cabinet. All necessary interfaces are available for easy integration into existing controls, network environments, and Industry 4.0 solutions. As part of the Genior Modular product family, it can also be integrated into a Genior modular monitoring system for process monitoring purposes, making it a flexible solution that can adapt to changing needs.

The system can be managed using eight operating scenarios and five static alarms for each scenario. The display and control software run on Windows (WIN 7/10) machine control panels or Siemens Linux systems (TCU). The software can be installed on 7-inc or 10-inch industrial PCs from Marposs or any Windows PC (WIN 7/10).
