Compact Automation Solution Extends Press Brake Scope and Precision
Bystronic’s Xpert 150-ton-to-320-ton press brakes automatically swap tools using a space-saving integrated tool changer. Users won’t bend a part using the wrong tool and tools aren’t incorrectly inserted into the machine’s upper or lower beam.

By automatically equipping the Xpert press brake with the upper and lower tools required for a job, Bystronic Inc.’s (Elgin, IL) space-saving integrated tool changer system eliminates a manual operation that consumes up to 70% of bending process time.
Many users think automation only makes sense when processing large batch sizes of identical parts because bending automation eats up valuable floor space. Bystronic resolves this potential drawback by housing the entire automation system within the machine: a 6-axis robotic arm accesses an integrated tool magazine. In addition to the advantageous ergonomics, this protects the robotics system and tool magazine from dirt and ambient influences.
In combination with the tool changer system, the Xpert offers a bending length of 9.8 feet. Press capacity ranges from 150 tons to 320 tons. Intelligent process control and fully automatic crowning enable a wide variety of parts to be bent with maximum repetition accuracy.
The system supports precision with intelligent sensors. After the operator inserts a new tool into the clamping, the tool changer scans and automatically integrates it into the magazine. When bending with several stations distributed across the bending length, the system positions all tools with millimeter precision. Users will never again bend a part using the wrong tool, or with a tool that’s been incorrectly inserted into the machine’s upper or lower beam.
A nozzle cleans the entire length of bending table using compressed air, eliminating the need for the operator to stop and remove mill scale and cutting residues from the lower beam.
ByVision Bending interface enables users to manage all operations from one touch screen, whether they’re controlling the tool change or bending process. This all-in-one solution also opens up data evaluation possibilities so users can improve their processes.
