Big Kaiser (Hoffman Estates, IL) Big-Plus BBT30 basic arbors (shell mill holders, end mill holders, shrink fit, and blanks) are now available in inch sizes so custom tools can be ordered, produced, and delivered more quickly in North America. The BBT30 shrink fit series complements 10 metric sizes, with items available in ¼ in, 3/8 in, ½ in, 5/8 in, and ¾ in. A single blank size enables customers to make special tools on their own. Additional grinding services and custom manufacturing are available.
A complement to the solid-construction, fixed-blade ChipFan the company introduced two years ago, Big Kaiser’s new chip blower automates in-machine cleaning of coolant and chips by delivering high-volume air flow with spindle rotation. When not in use, the blower fits easily into any automatic tool change system for vertical, horizontal, or multitasking machining centers.
Two other accessories – the ChipFan and T-slot cover – also improve in-process efficiency when used together.
Mounted in a collet chuck or end mill holder, chip fans remove chips and coolant without halting production and with little to no operator interaction. A pre-drilled hole allows spindles to shoot coolant through the center of the fan to rinse tables, fixtures, and workpieces. Fan cycles can be programmed to minimize spindle downtime.
T-slot covers keep chips and coolant from collecting in machining centers and interfering with work. They’re easy to remove as soon as machine slots are ready to be used, allowing access to a clean fixturing surface and quick setup changes.
