Featuring extremely heat-resistant coatings and special carbide substrates, Mapal’s (Port Huron, MI) OptiMill-3D solid carbide milling cutters are designed specifically for tool and mold making with HF (hardened), CR (corner radius), and CS (circular radius) configurations.

Available with four or six cutting edges, the OptiMill-3D-HF-Hardened for machining 45-66 HRC (Rockwell C hardness) materials have a special face geometry to ensure reliability in difficult applications such as an interrupted cut.

The milling cutter with four edges is suitable for roughing and pre-finishing as well as machining with long projection lengths and in deep cavities. The milling cutter with six edges is suitable for roughing and pre-finishing as well as finishing flat surfaces with a high feed rate.

Available with three or four cutting edges, the OptiMill-3D-HF is for soft machining. Dimensions match the OptiMill-3D-HF-Hardened.

Featuring highly accurate corner radii for maximum precision, the OptiMill-3D-CR-Hardened for 3D molds up to 66 HRC produces smooth, high-gloss finishes with maximum feed rate. Diameters range from 4 mm to 12 mm with different lengths and corner radii.

The OptiMill-3D-CS is for mold making in deep cavities and complex free-form shapes and for manufacturing turbine blades and impellers on 5-axis machines. The combination of circular radius and form cutter make a larger path spacing during pre-finishing and finishing possible, reducing machining time and improving surface finish.

Choose the OptiMill-3D-CS in droplet shape to machine deep, difficult-to-access cavities. Choose the tapered shape for large surfaces and surfaces with tool restrictions.
