TWO NEW PRODUCTS FROM BILSING
Ultrahigh-modulus carbon fiber composite tooling and double-blank detection for hot or cold stamping.
Posted: December 24, 2019
New ultrahigh-modulus pitch-based carbon fiber composite tooling from Bilsing Automation North America (Roseville, MI) is 3.5 times stiffer than steel tooling at less than half the weight. Lighter and stiffer than aluminum, it improves production up to a 20% by significantly reducing vibration and deflection.
Applications include crossbar beams, loading and unloading beams, destacking beams, panel loading t-booms, and tooling supports for the body shop pressroom and injection molding.
The company produces round, square, and conical composite tools as well as custom profiles that can be powder-coated any color. Dampening layers are added to many applications to make the tooling even faster and more precise. Profiles are compatible with standard popular-brand vacuum, gripper, and power clamp components.
Bilsing’s PSB-20 pneumatic grippers can now be used to detect double blanks in hot- and cold-forming operations. Adjusted in advance to match component strength, the gripper’s digital- and analog-readable thickness sensor sends a warning signal when it detects a double sheet. Made from high-strength aluminum and rated for 1,000 degrees, the compact gripper reaches 80 strokes per minute. Self-locking model provides 800 newtons (N) of clamping force; those without reach 480 N. Connection choices include lateral ball, lateral pin, back ball connection, or single-tube system (STS) in the back.
