TAP FOR HIGH-STRENGTH STEELS AND TITANIUM ALLOYS
Dormer Pramet’s Shark Line grows with the addition of the Black-ring tap.
Posted: December 27, 2019
Dormer Pramet (Elgin, IL) makes selecting the right tool for the job quick and easy by ringing each Shark Line tap with a color that denotes material suitability. A red ring is for alloy steels; yellow is for structural, carbon, and low-alloy steels; blue is for stainless steel; and white is for cast iron.
Now there’s a black ring.
Available in spiral point (E816, E817, E916, E917) and spiral flute (E805, E806, E905, E906) geometries for through- and blind-hole threading, the new tap provides high performance and process security in hardened and tempered materials below 45 HRC. Like the rest of the Shark Line, the Black Shark has an aluminum titanium nitride (AlTiN or TiAlN) coating and is manufactured from a unique powder metallurgy tool steel for toughness, longer life, and increased performance at higher operating temperatures.
