ONE CRANE, TWO AUTOMATION OPTIONS
Overhead crane combines lightweight aluminum rail systems with semi- or fully automated “smart” material-handling solutions.

Unified Industries (Brighton, MI), a Columbus McKinnon Corp. company, introduces the ProPath, a workstation crane that gives operators two levels of automation via Magnetek Material Handling’s IMPULSE variable-frequency drives (VFDs):
- Semi-automated. Also called auto-dispatch, this configuration relies on human assistance for precise actions. Movement is initiated via Magnetek radio remote controls or pendant pushbutton stations; VFDs power the bridge, trolley, and hoist motions. As the crane travels to designated locations, operators are free to work on other critical tasks.
- Fully automated. Crane manages material flow throughout the manufacturing process with limited human interaction beyond initial setup. VFDs ensure consistent operation and improve cycle times by monitoring parameters such as hook height, load status, and speed throughout the process. Continuous analytics and diagnostics inform operators of system status at all times, giving them information they need to minimize downtime by planning maintenance.
Ergonomically superior to standard bridge cranes and monorails, Unified Industries’ enclosed-track aluminum (ETA) rail systems and components can be used as both runway and bridge rails. Multiple options for Z-axis motion-and-control panels and to enhance communication, positioning, and safety.
