In Booth A-2140, the Dyna-Cell robotic bending cell from LVD Strippit (Akron, NY) makes its North American debut and features a high-speed electric press brake and robot that function as a compact, integrated unit to automate the bending of small to medium-sized parts in varying batch sizes at bending speeds up to 1 in (25 mm) per second. Dyna-Cell is built on the proven Dyna-Press electric-drive platform. The cell combines a Dyna-Press Pro 40 ton press brake with 59 in (1,500 mm) working length and a five-axis backgauge with a KUKA industrial robot to offer maximum bending productivity in a small footprint of 16 ft x 16 ft (5 m x 5 m). This robotic bending cell incorporates a stacking area with space to load and unload several pallets. Finished parts are offloaded by the robot on to the appropriate pallet. When bending a large volume of small parts, no operator intervention is required for up to eight hours of automated production. This design concept also allows for unmanned or manned operation, offering a perfect bending system for small, medium and large batch sizes.

The robot features a unique gripper designed and patented by LVD for the Dyna-Cell that fits part sizes from 1.25 in x 3.9 in (30 mm x 100 mm) up to 13.7 in x 19.6 in (350 mm x 500 mm). Its compact size allows it to easily handle small parts and go between tool stations. Users can make bends on three different sides of a part without regripping. Gripper suction cups are controlled via offline software and activated according to part size. Because one gripper fits all applications, production is continuous and uninterrupted. Dyna-Cell offers fast programming of part and robot following the 10-10 rule: 10 minutes for CAM generation of the bending and robot program and 10 minutes for set-up and first part generation. Even with parts positioned and manipulated by the robot, the bending cell minimizes the time from “art to part.” When batch sizes are too small to benefit from robot automation, the robot can be placed in “park” position and the press brake can be used in standalone mode. Dyna-Cell is equipped with the latest generation Touch-B 15 in touch screen control that is fully integrated with the CADMAN® software suite.
