TRUMPF Names New Director of Smart Factory
Markus Zimmermann now leads the operation and continuous development of their Smart Factory in Chicago.

Markus Zimmermann is now the director of the TRUMPF Smart Factory (Hoffman Estates, IL), reporting directly to Burke Doar, a senior vice president of TRUMPF Inc. (Farmington, CT). Zimmermann obtained a Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Stuttgart. During his final year of studies, he held an internship with TRUMPF in Germany, where he also completed his graduate thesis. Following graduation, he joined the company as a development engineer for optical components, then became their head of advanced development for laser cutting machines, where he built an Advanced Development group dedicated to the expansion of TruConnect and Smart Factory products.
Most recently, Zimmermann worked as the manager for global testing and product performance to develop and install innovative and reliable solutions in the process chain for customers. In his new position, he will be responsible for the operation and continuous development of the Smart Factory by utilizing the latest company technology to demonstrate industrially-viable autonomous factory solutions to customers. He will also lead TruConnect, Automation and Software sales and marketing activities for North America.
