The Lasertec 30 SLM from DMG MORI USA Inc. (Hoffman, Estates, IL) is a five-axis powder bed fusion machine that uses selective laser melting to create very small, highly complex parts. This machine enables the flexible use of different materials while its intelligent powder module design allows the change of material in under two hours. Its closed powder circuit also guarantees a high degree of work safety and process autonomy. The ergonomic design of the machine simplifies workpiece handling and maintenance work through the arrangement of doors and flaps, while a Stealth Design Control Panel keeps all important buttons and operating elements in direct view and control panel. Holistic software solutions from the CAD-file (RDesigner) to the process control (ROperator) enable the machine to realize workpieces of various materials with high density and very good mechanical behaviors.

This selective laser melting machine produces 3D parts with lattice and honeycomb structures that are not achievable with other machining methods. It has an integrated powder recycling center for even more efficiency and improved powder handling in removable units for better reliability. DMG MORI acquired a 30 percent stake in software developer InTech (New Delhi, India) in an arrangement that gives the machine tool builder access to key software and technology know-how for generative production via metal 3D printing. InTech is the developer of Optomet, software that automatically calculates optimal process parameters for powder-bed metal additive manufacturing. It simplifies programming and delivers improved surface quality and reproducible material properties for the Lasertec SLM series by using self-adjusting and learning algorithms that calculate the required parameters of the SLM process in advance within minutes.
