For large part grinding applications, the GL4i-100 Switch universal grinding machine from JTEKT Toyoda Americas Corporation (Arlington Heights, IL) has a 400 mm swing, increased part capacity and a manually adjustable wheelhead for straight and angled configurations. The versatile GL4i-50 Switch universal grinding machine has a manually adjustable wheelhead for straight and angular applications and features 45-degree swivel increment for flexible grinding of smaller diameter journals. Faster cycle times and a reduced probability of burning on face grinds are a result of stabilized grinding from a reinforced new bed design and New Toyopuc-Touch control. These grinders feature a high rigidity, low vibration bed, high accuracy feed drive mechanism, a low thermal displacement bed and a heat isolation cover. The STAT® bearing enables these grinders to run at top performance longer by using a hybrid of hydrostatic and hydrodynamic technology to eliminate metal-to-metal contact inside the bearing. A floating plate absorbs movement in the ballscrew to maintain grinding accuracy and positioning.
