Automation Apps Increase Reliability in Smart Factory Production

Individually configurable software application packages from Liebherr can increase the control and reliability of robotic production in an Industry 4.0 operating environment.

Posted: February 2, 2019

The Production Monitoring App from Liebherr monitors and displays machine status on a large screen or smartphone. All operating and production data of each station can be evaluated to determine and visualize system availabilities and downtimes to detect weaknesses in the system and then optimize as necessary. Their Part Tracking App logs part data before the part loads into the system to guarantee a reliable process. Users can generate and filter part lists as desired for quality inspection or other tasks to be performed. (first view)

To improve the reliability of automated production operations, Liebherr Automation Systems Company (Saline, MI) developed a control system, LMS 4.0 (Liebherr Manufacturing System), that permits users to choose four individually configurable software application packages that meet their requirements for Industry 4.0 applications and support i4.0 initiatives:

  • Via the Production Schedule App (PSA), users can determine and manage production orders, processes and workpiece flow. This app includes production order management, where the operator can create orders for loading unmachined parts that contain part types, quantity, and delivery date. The system can then process these orders statically (according to sequence) or dynamically (according to delivery date).
  • For part tracking in an assembly line, the PTA (Part Tracking App) logs the workpiece data in a production cell before each workpiece is loaded into the system to guarantee a reliable process. Users can easily adapt and freely configure the data structure with an Excel template. Using this structure, they can also define workpiece lists based on priorities. For example, they can generate workpiece lists that can be filtered as desired and offer possibilities for quality inspection.
  • For recording production and operating data, the PMA (Production Monitoring App) displays machine status on a large screen or smartphone. All operating and production data of each station is monitored and recorded via this app and can be evaluated accordingly to determine and visualize system availabilities and downtimes to detect weaknesses in the system and then optimize as necessary.
  • The Predictive Planned Maintenance (PPM) app enables intelligent maintenance planning and can generate maintenance logs. This self-learning system registers the wear curves of the individual stations and creates intelligent maintenance planning in order to reduce and plan downtimes. Large screens and mobile end devices are considered for the display. They are all controlled via the Info Board App. As a result, the user can have the operating states displayed on the machine-cell-station-component, call up workpiece counters, and perform remote monitoring.
