In Booth B-6666, Press Brake Safety (Zionsville, IN) will feature the new Fiessler Modular Safety Controller (FMSC) PLC safety controller from Fiessler Elektronik (Esslingen, Germany) that is flexible, fast and easy. In contrast to the general trend towards “brand labeling” safety controllers, Fiessler Elektronik relies on complete in-house development of this safety PLC for access at all times to the development of both hardware and software. This enables them to quickly react to special customer requests or adaptations. The modular FMSC safety controller can be flexibly and efficiently adapted to the control task. Various master and slave devices are available for this purpose. Each FMSC module has 12 inputs, four safe outputs and five standard outputs. A two-digit display for the initial diagnosis, as well as a USB port for online diagnostics, complete the hardware profile. The modules are simply plugged onto a top-hat rail. If several modules are to be used in one application, they are simply connected to each other by means of a backplane bus connector.

The FMSC controller has a shut-down function with a maximum shutdown time of 0.5 ms. A parameter can be established for each input for this function. This is done easily in the configurator of the FMSC Studio programming software. Programming is done in a graphical method. The generation of so-called combinations, better known as subroutines, significantly simplifies the creation of programs. Recurring functions can be combined and stored in a combination. Time-dependencies, as well as functional conditions, can be easily adjusted in the simulator. This software is also the basis for online diagnostics. The use of the latest technologies has significantly reduced the cycle time of the FMSC to monitor up to 17 axes according to performance level e – a property that enables completely new applications to be developed and solved.
