In Booth B-6629, Salvagnini America, Inc. (Hamilton, OH) will showcase their FlexCell, an automated kit blanking and short run bending system that combines the best of press brake and panel bending technologies to provide the fastest, least expensive, most profitable way to form parts. Cut and laser-marked blanks are received from a Salvagnini fiber laser or S4 punch+shear machine. Bar codes on the blanks are then scanned into the FlexCell system. Part sequencing is automatically optimized and the panel bender and press brake are automatically set up for bending. Setups are always accomplished in masked time, so setup time on either machine is always zero. Depending on specifications, a part may be formed on one machine or the other, or a combination of the two – whatever method results in the shortest cycle time. Parts are automatically formed to a ± 0.004 in tolerance with an average cost savings of $0.53 per bend over conventional means. Managed by one operator rather than four, FlexCell is a tribute to Industry 4.0.
