Superior Tool Service (STS; Wichita, KS) is No. 4787 on the 37th annual Inc. 5000, the most prestigious ranking of the nation’s fastest-growing private companies. Founded in 1987, STS is an international leader in manufacturing and distribution of carbide and hi-speed steel cutting tools, industrial supplies and PVD coating services that serve more than 400 machine shops worldwide who are suppliers to the aerospace, thermoplastics, medical, dental, composites manufacturing, heavy equipment, agricultural and automotive industries.
The list, published by Inc. Magazine, represents a unique look at the most successful companies within the American economy’s most dynamic segment: independent small businesses. Microsoft, Dell, Domino’s Pizza, Pandora, Timberland, LinkedIn, Yelp, Zillow, and many other well-known names gained their first national exposure as honorees on the Inc. 5000. STS made the list for the first time with three-year revenue growth of 64 percent. “It’s an honor to make this list for the first time,” said Clint Whitney, the president of STS. “With our investment in new services including industrial supply and PVD coatings, we’ve expanded our offerings to new and existing customers alike. That trend, coupled with our unique position in the market for custom cutting tools in days versus weeks, continues to fuel our growth.”
In 2017, STS expanded into a 33,000 sq ft facility to accommodate their cutting tool manufacturing, industrial supply and PVD coating divisions. They invested $2.2 million in equipment and hired additional employees. They show no signs of slowing down, with even more plans to invest in the future.
