Amada Holdings Co., Ltd. (Isehara, Japan) has acquired all of the shares of metal cutting machine manufacturer Marvel Manufacturing, Inc. (Oshkosh, WI), made them a wholly-owned subsidiary and renamed them Amada Marvel, Inc. They are a long-standing seller of metal cutting machines, parts, and blades used in North America for over 100 years. Their main products are vertical tilt-frame band saws that cut lightweight structural steels used in the construction of various vehicles, agricultural machines, etc. These saws hold a high market share in North America.
This acquisition allows Amada Group to add band saws for lightweight structural
steels to their product lineup and makes them the top manufacturer of band saw machines in
North America in terms of sales. Amada will develop special blades for vertical tilt-frame band saws in Japan, and Amada Marvel will sell them in North America. Amada development and sales capabilities will be leveraged to expand their cutting machine business globally, using local affiliates to sell Amada Marvel equipment in regions other than North America. Amada Marvel plants are also being considered to manufacture peripheral equipment for metal cutting machines. Through this acquisition, Amada will promote an expanded product lineup, develop their global manufacturing and sales systems, and target a goal to expand Amada Group sales in the cutting business by 50 percent, from $306.97 million (JPY34 billion)
in fiscal year 2017 to S451.43 million (JPY50 billion) by fiscal year 2021.
