In Booth E-134102, Mitsubishi Electric Automation, Inc. (Vernon Hills, IL) showcases their theme this year of “Running the SMARTEST Machines in the World” with the MELSEC iQ-R automation platform that can achieve even greater productivity and lower cycle times with the introduction of the C80 Series CNC. The rack-based C80 features a CNC-dedicated CPU designed to maximize the control’s performance. Industry-leading CNC functions and drive units deliver high speed, highly accurate machining, while a high speed system bus provides large-capacity data communication – combining to reduce cycle times and increase productivity. The C80 is especially useful for rotary dial machines, production machines using multiple processes, and automotive transfer lines. Key benefits of the C80 Series controller include:

The C80 also offers the ability to control all CNC CPUs on a PLC rack. Three CPUs control up to 21 system components and 48 axes, making it ideal for high axis count applications. In addition, the C80 can communicate with any module that can be used in a rack-based solution. “The optical communication speed between the CNC and drive is fast, providing for improved system responsiveness, and ultimately resulting in more accurate machining,” stated Scott Strache, a product manager at Mitsubishi Electric Automation. “We expect the C80 to be in high demand among OEMs for rotary dial machines and multiple system machines, as well as in automotive production lines where multiple processes can be achieved using high axis counts.”
Also on display will be their single-source manufacturing systems, with the most advanced integrated factory automation operations in action, including Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) systems, the M8 CNC series control platform, FR series robots, 5-axis machining and a fully automated manufacturing (FAM) cell. “Running the SMARTEST Machines in the World” is conveyed through these integrated systems, including MES Interface, SCADA, MTConnect compliant products, digitalization and on-board product analytics, which all provide the access needed for end users to leverage real-time production information to make smart business decisions. “Our booth demonstrations will illustrate how we can help shops increase throughput, reduce waste and increase production efficiency through products, services and analytics,” added Strache.
