National Material of Mexico (NMM), a subsidiary of National Material L.P. (Monterrey, Mexico) recently installed an advanced high strength steel high speed slitting line from Red Bud Industries (Red Bud, IL). This .250 in (6 mm) x 72 in (1,830 mm) line, which was operational in November 2017, is capable of processing AHSS automotive steel and other surface critical material with tensile strengths up to 250,000 psi (1,725 MPa). The line incorporates precision large arbor technology that was specially designed to address the unique demands of slitting these ultra-high tensile materials. Larger, more rigid slitter arbors with minimal shoulder run out are essential for AHSS applications. In addition, the system includes “hands free” push button strip threading from the uncoiler to the recoiler, and features the quickest set up and change over in the industry.
Other features, such as an in-line thickness detector and dual cassette precision shape correction leveler, makes this line an industry leader. This slitter is also equipped with state-of-the-art guarding to provide operators with the highest degree of safety possible. The new line consists of a coil stage and load system, uncoiler, peeler breaker, entry crop shear, two packed-arbor slitting heads, scrap winders, tensioner system, dual cassette precision leveler, exit crop shear, recoiler, exit coil lift, four-arm powered turnstile, and a complete packaging line.
