In Booth E-121615, HMI specialist GETT North America LLC (Houston, TX) brings a new range of capacitive keyboards to the market that are ideally suited for simple integration in machines, devices and other user surfaces and are also available as desktop keyboards. These glass keyboards have a completely flat and sealed surface and touch operations, where mechanical switch elements are completely missing. Glass keyboards have a promising future. It is not only a high quality and clean-cut material, but also heat and cold resistant. The areas of application of this material are flexible. The operating surface is 3 mm thick, thermally hardened white glass with a high degree of inherent rigidity and resistance to breakage. The central purpose of a capacitive keyboard is the ideal formation of the key functions. The high degree of user comfort, which is available without any mechanical pressure, is also suitable for people who are suffering from problems in their tendons and joints. The ergonomic design also supports the writing process.

The graphic layout of the keyboard is printed on the rear using ceramic colors that enable a color selection in line with RAL, Pantone or HKS. The glass that is printed in this way, then glued to the electronics with an adhesive layer so that it is dust-free and bubble-free. The main benefit is the ability to completely clean and disinfect the surface with one wipe. It is possible to temporarily deactivate the keyboard functions using the so-called “Clean Mode” key in order to prevent any unintentional activation of tasks during the cleaning process. The completely flat surface makes it impossible for any kind of dirt or liquids to enter the keyboard. The unit has a USB interface so that it is ready to be connected. Operating on glass keyboards or surfaces is easy thanks to high-end development of the capacitive surface. Sensor areas are arranged on the main circuit board and they form electrical fields and act like a capacitor plate. These fields penetrate the glass and therefore simulate the keys. If a user touches a field, the capacity changes and this triggers a signal.

The keyboards can be used in metal processing operations, as well as the automotive industry, food production and other market sectors. With high quality production made in Germany, these capacitive glass keyboards are made for a long-life span. Almost any kind of personalization is possible, in addition to the standard available layouts – even if an order only involves small quantities – ranging from a simple logo to a graphic user interface with an individual design throughout. GETT can also handle special glass measurements with different degrees of finish if required; this even includes producing a front operating panel with an integrated keyboard and display section.
