Moving Head CNC EDM Drilling Machines for Aerospace Parts

Easy automatic drilling of holes of different depths, smooth motion and stability, and long unattended operations make the Yougar YGS CNC Moving Head EDM from Absolute Machine Tools superior to fixed-head, moving-table style EDM drills.

Posted: May 28, 2018

The Yougar YGS CNC Moving Head EDM drilling machine from Absolute Machine Tool ensures smooth motion and stability superior to that of fixed-head, moving-table style EDM drills. Its automatic guide changer enables easy automatic drilling of holes of different depths and long unattended operations. It offers up to 8 fully programmable axes for complex manufacturing applications, with rotating brass or copper tubular electrodes from 0.004 in to 0.118 in diameter for drilling. Its high pressure pump adjusts through-spindle flushing up to 750 psi to maximize performance with any electrode size.

Absolute Machine Tools, Inc. (Lorain, OH), the exclusive U.S. importer and distributor of EDM machines and supplies from Yougar M&T, Inc. (Gimpo, South Korea), introduces the Yougar YGS CNC Moving Head series and YGS ZNC Manual series of EDM drilling machines. The design of the YGS CNC Moving Head series ensures smooth motion and stability superior to that of fixed-head, moving-table style EDM drills. An automatic guide changer (AGC) enables easy automatic drilling of holes of different depths and long unattended operations. The machines offer up to 8 fully programmable axes, facilitating processing of complex manufacturing applications. Rotating brass or copper tubular electrodes from 0.1 mm to 3.0 mm (0.004 in to 0.118 in) diameter perform drilling, while a high pressure pump provides adjustable through-spindle flushing from zero to 750 psi to maximize performance with any electrode size.

A 17 in touchscreen PC display enables operators to manually enter drilling positions or easily import them from a DXF file or wire EDM program file stored on an external source. USB or TCP/IP data transfer interfaces are standard. The built-in supply module for the dielectric system saves space and simplifies maintenance. Dielectric fluid is filtered from 3 µm to 20 µm via a standard replaceable paper filter cartridge.  An ION quality sensor and mixed bed ION exchange resin monitors clean water to maintain proper conductivity. Maximum workpiece weight is up to 1,100 lb. The machines support diverse rotary table manufacturers, tilting head (±45 deg) and multi-lingual operations. The YGS ZNC series is comprised of economical high speed EDM drilling machines that perform simple “start hole” drilling quickly and efficiently with electrodes in diameters ranging from 0.1 mm to 3.0 mm (0.004 in to 0.118 in). Featuring a 10 µm extended life filter, resistivity sensor, and ION exchange resin, the YGS ZNC series provides smooth reliable machining over long periods of time.

Yougar was established in 1999 to supply EDM consumables for major brands of EDM equipment. They manufactured their first EDM small-hole drilling machine in 2008, and in 2015 began to distribute a moving head EDM drill for large and heavy parts, primarily for the aerospace industry. Today they build EDM drills of up to 8-axis capability in both submerged and flushing type designs, with drilling ranges from 0.1 mm to 6 mm (0.004 in to 0.24 in) in both oil and water. Their EDM drilling machines are sold in Europe, Mexico and Malaysia by Mitsubishi EDM, in Sweden by Fanuc EDM, and distributed exclusively in the U.S. by Absolute Machine Tools. “Yougar has built a global reputation for providing reliable, precise EDM holemaking equipment,” said Steve Ortner, the president and owner of Absolute Machine Tools. “We are very pleased to add their advanced EDM holemaking products and expertise to our EDM lineup for North America.”
