M-CNC Invests in Rapid Response Manufacturing

Their ambitious growth plans include investing $3.8 million in machine tools and automation for rapid 10-day turnaround of orders.

This DMF 260-11 linear 5-axis traveling column machine is one of eight DMG MORI machine tools being purchased by M-CNC that will give them the ability to cut large 5-axis parts up to 2.5 m long and 750 mm diameter. They are completely automating their existing product lines and introducing a rapid response cell for a 10-day turnaround of orders.
To complement their investment in machine tools, including this DMU 50 universal milling machine with an automated PH 150 pallet changer, M-CNC is also investing in Edgecam CAD/CAM software and Javelin ERP and MRP that will integrate with CELOS software on the machine tools and, together with further investment in modular storage, tooling and inspection equipment, will enable the shop to work towards Industry 4.0.

Specializing in the manufacture of high quality, high value components for aerospace, motor sport, chemical, oil and gas and leisure industries, M-CNC Precision Engineering (Bridgwater, England) is set to triple in size since their launch in 2011, with ambitious growth plans that include investing $3.8 million in machine tools and automation from DMG MORI UK (Coventry, England).

“We are purchasing eight DMG MORI machines that will give us the ability to cut large 5-axis parts up to 2.5 m long and 750 mm diameter,” said Leigh Howarth, the business development manager at M-CNC. “We are completely automating our existing product lines and we are introducing a rapid response cell for a 10-day turnaround of orders. Our aim is to become a center of excellence for the South West of England.” They already employ 17 people with four apprentices, and are actively seeking more skilled engineers to work in their state-of-the-art facility.

To complement their investment in the machine tools, the shop is also investing in Edgecam CAD/CAM software and Javelin ERP and MRP that will integrate with CELOS software and, together with further investment in modular storage, tooling and inspection equipment, will enable the company to work towards Industry 4.0. “We aim to achieve zero defects by engaging the workforce in the complete manufacturing cycle,” added Howarth. “We are already very close to that target and our mantra is to ‘be the best we can be at all times.’ The investment we are making will motivate our staff and inspire them to take full advantage of the capabilities of the advanced machinery we are installing, enabling us to deliver excellence to our customers.”
