How to Provide Uniform Pressure on Jaws for Consistent Bore in Oil and Gas Jobs

Jaw forming rings from Dillon are mounted in direct contact with the top jaw so that the jaw forming ring preloads the chucking system and grips the workpiece more firmly to maximize jaw life for cutting and forming operations, providing uniform pressure on all jaws for a consistent bore.

Available in adjustable or chuck-diameter-specific styles, easy-to-use jaw forming rings from Dillon allow soft jaws for oil and gas jobs to be machined precisely. Mounted in direct contact with the top jaw, the jaw forming ring preloads the chucking system and grips the workpiece more firmly to maximize jaw life for cutting and forming operations, providing uniform pressure on all jaws for a consistent bore. Machining the jaws at the same clamping pressure used to hold parts yields higher accuracy, and less jaw stock removal is required during parts set-up for requalifying or reforming. (first view)

Jaw forming rings from Dillon Manufacturing, Inc. (Springfield, OH) are easy-to-use tools that allow soft jaws for oil and gas jobs to be machined precisely. They grip the intended workpiece more firmly, thereby maximizing jaw life for cutting and forming operations. These proven jaw rings provide uniform pressure on all jaws for a consistent bore. Machining the jaws at the same clamping pressure used to hold parts yields higher accuracy. These rings are available in adjustable or chuck-diameter-specific styles, both with no-tools attachment. Mounted in direct contact with the top jaw, the jaw forming ring preloads the chucking system.  Jaw life for requalifying or reforming is maximized by lessening the amount of jaw stock removal required during parts set-up.

This jaw forming ring even compensates for “jaw lift” in worn chucks for better parts concentricity. Using this device provides a jaw surface true to the machine centerline, reduces set-up times and increases up-times for running machined parts. Jaw forming rings are available for 5 in, 6 in, 8 in, 10 in and 12 in power chucks, or in adjustable versions for 5 in to 8 in, 6 in to 10 in, and 8 in to 12 in chucks. They are capable of a wide range of OD and ID jaw formation, with self-centering action that provides equal pressure on all jaws.
