The compact Profilator S-500 from GMTA is a modular, vertical single-spindle pick-up gear cutting system for the dry machining of gears up to 500 mm diameter. All of the machine components are designed for especially high static stiffness and optimal dynamic behavior. The control panel and media container are installed on the rear of the machine bed and workpiece flow direction is variable, loading from front and rear as well as from side to side.
Ideal for automotive manufacturing, Rasoma machining centers from GMTA include vertical turning centers, 4-axis shaft turning centers, end machining, double spindle and various special purpose machining centers, such as cross-hole drilling in crankshafts, with full automation is offered. Machine configuration options include robotic handling and part articulation, integrated metrology onboard, working inside or outside the work envelope, full tool measurement and monitoring systems and driven tool packages, all controlled by a single Siemens CNC. GMTA (German Machine Tools of America; Ann Arbor, MI) represents the Profilator line of gear pointing, rounding, cutting, Scudding®, Hard Scudding®, deburring and polygon machine tools for North America. These highly modular machines are used for polygon and slot facing, shifter stop machining, chamfering and deburring of highly complex automotive and other powertrain gears. Scudding and Hard Scudding processes provide unmatched manufacturing efficiency, and Hard Scudding allows the machining of green and hardened gears on the same machine tool, using the same programs. Profilator gear machines are found throughout North American automotive OEM and Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers. GMTA provides full application engineering, machine building, installation, commissioning and all tooling from their operations in the U.S. and Mexico.

GMTA also offers a full line of Rasoma machining centers for automotive manufacturing, including vertical turning centers, 4-axis shaft turning centers, end machining, double spindle and various special purpose machining centers, such as cross-hole drilling in crankshafts, with full automation is offered. Machines are available in a variety of configurations for turning, milling, and drilling, with the possibility to combine these with gear generating processes. Rasoma machining centers offer high rigidity through separate X and Z slides and a monoblock machine head with polymer concrete fill.  Thermal stability is enhanced by cooled motor spindles and the rapid traverse on these centers ranges up to 60 m/min at high acceleration, with feed and removal speeds to 120 m/min, less than six seconds from part to part and turret indexing typically under one second.
