ESAB Acquires Sandvik Welding Wire Business
The $55 million operation includes solid welding wire and rods, flux-cored wire, stick electrodes, strip electrodes, flux, thermal spray wire and weld finishing chemicals.

ESAB Welding & Cutting Products (Annapolis Junction, MD) has agreed to acquire the welding wire operations of Sandvik Materials Technology (Stockholm, Sweden) in a deal that includes production units in Sandviken, Sweden, and Scranton, PA, as well as the global sales and product management organization. Revenues for this welding wire business amounted to $55 million in 2016 and the business employs approximately 120 people.
The Sandvik portfolio includes solid welding wire and rods, flux-cored wire, stick electrodes, strip electrodes, flux, thermal spray wire and weld finishing chemical products. “We are excited by the opportunity to better serve customers with a broader and enhanced portfolio of stainless steel and nickel filler metals,” said Shyam Kambeyanda, the president of ESAB. The acquisition is expected to be completed in two to four months. Sandvik customers, distributors and suppliers will continue to conduct business as usual during the integration.
