Beckwood Press Company (St. Louis, MO) has been awarded a contract by Dahlstrom Roll Form (Jamestown, NY) to design and manufacture a 75 ton high speed punching press. This will be their fourth custom Beckwood press since 2002. Previous machinery includes 58 ton and 140 ton forming presses and a 100 ton high speed punching press. “Learning the intricacies of the roll forming process through our long-term partnership with them has been really exciting,” says Jeffrey Debus, the president of Beckwood. “To meet their speed and positional accuracy requirements, our engineers have been challenged to push the limits of a hydraulic press. Projects like this are why we come to work every day.”
With a 30 in x 50 in forming area and a custom-designed hydraulic circuit, this press is capable of punching aluminum and steel sheet material up to 60 times per minute. Programmable fixed stops limit ram retraction and eliminate over-shoot, ensuring accuracy and reducing cycle times while a through-hole in the bed expedites scrap removal and increases through-put. This new machine also includes several up-time focused features: the press structure is engineered for Infinite Life using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software that uses computer-aided simulations to ensure the design is robust enough to handle the most taxing industrial applications. Dual linear and pressure transducers offer optimal reliability and redundancy, and a proprietary PressLink connect module facilitates fast, complimentary remote support and troubleshooting.
Since 1904, Dahlstrom Roll Form has been a major supplier of roll formed equipment components made from a variety of metals, including stainless, aluminum, copper, brass, and bronze. Their name has been synonymous with a standard of excellence in custom roll formed products. Over a century of consistent work in the roll form industry has left Dahlstrom with a broad range of 1,600+ unique profiles.“They have become a valued resource for our continuing growth,” noted Robert White, the president and owner of the company. “Our presses have functioned accurately and reliably for many years, and our operators like the standardized interface that Beckwood works with us to create on each machine. The commonality of control makes their jobs easier.”
